Gemma 25, is a mum of two from Brent. Having recently graduated with a HND in Health and Social Care at Harrow College, Gemma learnt about the YPE programme through her housing association, L&Q.

“Even though I’d gained this qualification, I had a diploma but no real career objectives and was lacking in confidence. At the time it felt like I was just this mother of two and I was never going to get a job. Now I feel as though I’ve taken a step on the [career] ladder and can move on to bigger things. Things feel more open to me now and I feel pushed and supported. I have improved my communication skills and am now assisting with the interviewing and recruitment of volunteers, database management and event planning. I am using my time here to learn more about what it is like to work within both the Health and Social Care sector and a charity and as I gain more knowledge and training, I am also confident that this experience will help me to find a long term job.”
