Over 250 local people volunteer their time with Octavia each year, to support our work in west and central London supporting local people during times of personal difficulty or crisis.
Volunteering presents a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills and experiences and to enhance your CV and employment prospects whilst meeting new people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
People choose to volunteer for a huge number of reasons, but whatever your motivation, interest, experience or availability, we are certain that there will be a volunteer role for you with Octavia that you will find to be rewarding, challenging and enjoyable.
All of our volunteers receive full training and an induction relevant to their role. We reimburse agreed travel and lunch expenses and organise social events for our volunteers throughout the year.
To become a Telephone Befriending Volunteer with the Octavia, please complete the application form here, completing all essential questions (those with a *). Due to current government guidance on social distancing, all other roles are currently on hold until advice changes.
Telephone befriending involves calling an older, isolated person once or twice weekly for up to an hour - supporting them to feel more connected and less lonely without ever leaving your home. All our processes are now being completed remotely, including training via video call (1 hour).
If you have any questions or queries before applying, please call 020 8354 5681 or email our volunteer coordinator.
Once you have completed the application form a member of the team will be in touch to talk you through the next steps. We will check the 2 references you provide and complete a DBS check.
At the moment we are only able to accept volunteers over the age of 18.
