Bespoke Support that Changes Lives

Mr G was left with a debilitating brain injury after serious accident, leaving him having to learn how to walk and talk again along with serious memory problems. This made it hard for him to remember people, appointments and other important information and had a devastating effect on his relationships.

Mr G’s life has completely changed from having financial security, a job, and social network, to moving home and not speaking to anyone, leaving him feeling disconnected and confused on who to trust.

Working with Mr G’s sister, our team were able to match Mr G with a trained and vetted volunteer befriender, with his sister acting as a point of reference if he forgot who the volunteer was. Notes were taken in the volunteers introductory meeting of what was agreed, providing Mr G with clarity and a reminder of what the befriending service does. The volunteer - who has experience of working with people who are vulnerable- became a trusted connection, and even helped him find a grant for his broken fridge and to access a local food bank.

The volunteer has also provided a cultural connection for Mr G, both having Caribbean heritage, which is particularly nice for Mr G as he gets to share his identity with someone.

Please consider supporting our Winter Campaign so more people like Mr G can overcome challenges with support, kindness and compassion when they need it most.
