Older and vulnerable people

The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on the plight of many older and vulnerable individuals across the country. Through our work in the community, we know that many people were experiencing symptoms of loneliness long before the crisis, and now find themselves in greater need of companionship than ever before. To tackle growing levels of social isolation in the community, we have switched our face-to-face befriending offer with a telephone service. Through the programme, older people receive comfort, conversation and companionship by way of a weekly call from a volunteer.

Since we launched the service in April, we have been humbled by the outpouring of support we have received. If you could spare just one hour a week to brighten the life of an older person, please fill out our volunteer application form here.

The following services have been temporarily suspended as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

Befriending

We provide a befriending service that offers vital emotional support to those who are isolated. Each individual is carefully matched with a volunteer befriender who visits every week for at least six months. Find out more.

Events and outings

The joy and stimulation of meeting others, as well as the chance to do something different from sitting at home, can provide a huge boost to many isolated and older people. We organise a wide range of social and cultural events throughout the year. Find out more.

Community Befriending

We offer residents of Westminster and the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea the chance to engage with like-minded people who live locally. We provide taster sessions throughout the year introducing different activities, coffee mornings and seasonal events. Find out more.
