Annual Xmas Party
Annual Xmas Party at London Lighthouse - 10th December 2010
On Friday 10th December 2010 the Octavia Foundation held its annual Christmas party for elderly tenants of Octavia Housing, at the Lighthouse, Ladbroke Grove. The party ran between 1.00pm-4.00pm and was in partnership with Notting Hill Housing Trust.
The Octavia Foundation run the Christmas party annually for elderly tenants of the care schemes, day centres and residential homes run by Octavia Housing, with the inclusion this year of tenants from Notting Hill Housing. For many of these tenants, aged 60+, the party is an opportunity to move away from their usual surroundings and socialise with other tenants, carers and staff from Octavia Housing and Foundation.
The residents spent the day playing bingo, winning raffle prizes, sharing conversation and eating delicious food at the Lighthouse. In all there were 80 people who attended from Octavia Housing, Kensington Day Centre, The Quest and Notting Hill Housing Trust. Guests enjoyed a live pianist, bingo, raffle, buffet lunch and free Waitrose goodie bags.
The Octavia Foundation recognises the importance of supporting elderly tenants; even living in supported or residential housing can be isolating for some older people. The Christmas party is an annual treat which many residents look forward to and it is important to continuously engage with this group of residents, who despite having a lot of care and support from Octavia Housing, can often feel isolated and lonely, especially at Christmas. Therefore the overall aim of the event was to provide a free, fun filled Christmas party for older residents of Kensington and Chelsea.
